Not Your Ordinary Salad: 4 Joints for a Salad in San Diego

Tue, 26th Jul 2016

Plain and boring iceberg lettuce salads have thankfully gone the way of the flip-phone. Today's salads are much more inventive and chock full of flavorful ingredients, it's way more than a side, in fact, it's a full meal in itself. The great thing about a salad is that it's cold and refreshing, making it an ideal meal to beat the heat this summer in San Diego. Check out these four San Diego dining joints for a salad that goes beyond plain and ordinary. Where's your spot?

The Mad Beet - Pacific Beach

Beat the heat with an extraordinary salad from The Mad Beet, where you'll find cleverly named salads that go beyond the ordinary. For instance, the Frank Spinatra with chipotle chicken, bacon, spinach, pickled egg, tomato, shallot, avocado, carrot, mango salsa, and ranch dressing will get under your skin in a good way. Don't let the name fool you, the Sir Mixed A Lot will not give you a big butt, in fact, with beet, spinach, apple, shallot, celery, salt & pepper, and red wine mignonette, it's packed with enough goodness that'll have you shaking your healthy booty onto the streets of PB.

Urbane Cafe - Mira Mesa

Ditch the mundane and head to Urbane where a fresh, creative and healthy salad menu awaits! Talk about refreshing, the Mango Jicama Salad (served with mango miso dressing) is so fresh and oh so tasty thanks to the chopped tender greens, avocado, mango jicama, goat cheese & cashews that it's sure to cool you off with each tasty bite. For those looking for something with meat, you really can't go wrong with the Santa Maria BBQ Chicken, a scrumptious and filling salad featuring roasted BBQ chicken, chop salad slaw mix, goat cheese, corn & black bean salsa, grape tomatoes, applewood-smoked bacon, and a blackberry BBQ sauce drizzle.

Nate's Garden Grill - City Heights

Nate's Garden Grill has got everything you need to spend an afternoon in beautiful San Diego. Grab a table and enjoy the rustic atmosphere, whilst noshing on a fresh salad, sipping on a craft beer and listening to live music - a delightful afternoon indeed. Try the organic kale & radicchio salad featuring kale and radicchio as well as lemon, garlic oil, paremesan cheese and crostini. Bonus points for the awesome City Farmer's Nursery on the property.

Garden Kitchen - Rolando

Expect something different at Garden Kitchen in Rolando, after all, the menu changes daily! What I really love about the Garden Kitchen, besides the rotating daily menu, is that the ingredients are super fresh and organic produce from local farms. This dining joint is perfect for those that travel in picky eating parties, whether there's a vegetarian, carnivore or vegan. Past salad menu's have included tasty and fresh salads such as the Rainbow Cobb with zebra tomato, farm carrot, roasted corn & asparagus, danish blue cheese, pickled beet & egg, pea tendrils, herb croutons, and a creamy herb dressing that packs a flavorful punch inside your mouth! Be sure to check out the menu daily!
